Admission or Submission

Your new resume
Now a days everybody has a social media profile, every one is connected and their information is voluntarily put up on the internet. When you post something online it's there forever and anyone can see it, that means everyone, future employers, admission staff, and even your Grandma. Don’t throw away all your hard work because of a picture your friend tagged you in of that party after the football game, or that time you tweeted about how stupid school is and you hate all your teachers. College admission staff now days use Facebook and Twitter as a part of the admission process and in some cases can make or break one’s chances on getting admitted.

People who often use social media probably will most likely post something once in a while and it could be completely innocent, it still says something about you. Without even knowing it people are making their own online resume of who they are that anyone can have access to. Your new “public online resume” can be seen by anyone and people who may want to get to know you will take advantage of that. Say you're applying to something like a job or a college, the people judging whether you may get in or not have all this information about you if you show it to the public, this can make their decision about you alot easier as it can be a better representation of who you really are.

Is it worth it?
Ten percent of universities admissions staff are actively checking applicants facebook during the admission process. So remember when putting your work or college application out there that there is another online resume of you that could actually be even more honest. Facebook, Twitter, or any other site because you will be judged by the decisions you make and they could impact the view on you by others. And students especially when you're applying to a college, you want to look like the best fit student for the school, let your new “online resume” reflect that. In this day and age social media is becoming so potent in our society that we do have to stop and think if its really worth it posting anything when it could jeopardize your own future.
